Do you have to be an expert on a subject to start a blog?

You don't need a PhD or 20 years of experience to start. In the blogging world, expertise is a lot broader than people think.

Think about it like this:

Some people have the paperwork (like a dog grooming certification). They’ve done the formal study and have the certificate to prove they know the theory.

Other people have the hands-on time. They might have owned a local grooming shop for five years without ever getting a formal degree in it. Their credentials are just a long line of happy dogs and owners who trust them. They know what they’re doing because they’ve actually done it.

But what if you're just starting out?

You can still blog. You just have to be honest about where you are. Instead of pretending to be a master, you learn out loud. You take a job at a shop, or start practicing, and you write about what you’re finding out as you go. You document the mistakes, the small wins, and the weird stuff that happens.

As long as you aren't overstepping (like sharing a shop’s private info without asking), this is actually a great way to build a following. People like watching someone learn in real-time.

In the end, you’re an expert to anyone who is just one step behind you.
