Fact-checking: A Modern Day Superpower
This Q from Quora asks:
Are you able to recognize written creator content versus a true story?
I can but usually only if I’m curious enough to care whether it’s true.
I grew up in the 90s, a time when you were taught to have a healthy skepticism for everything thrown at you. That’s how my parents raised me, and it’s how I saw the world, especially as the internet was just starting to gain ground.
If something sparks my curiosity or seems important, I’ll dig deeper and pull facts from different sources. Otherwise, I just assume the content is a theoretical discussion.
I also look closely at the writer:
Are they a real person? It’s a funny question to have to ask, but that’s the world we live in now.
Do they actually have first-hand experience?
Most creator content fails these two tests. Usually, it’s either an AI-generated profile or someone with zero real-world experience just summarizing what they’ve read elsewhere.
