How to make a blog go viral?

This Q from Quora asks:

"What’s the secret formula to make an educational blog go viral?"

I’ve worked with plenty of businesses using blogs as a core marketing tool.

These are typically in the $50K–$180K MRR range, so established enough to know what works, but still hungry for growth.

Here’s the most important thing I’ve learned from them:

There is no secret.

The "secret" is simply accepting the path of slow progress, then building upon it consistently.

Sure, these companies optimize their operations and build better products, so the blog isn't their only component.

But notice what they don't do: they don't focus on virality.

Funny enough, the answer is exactly the same for building muscle.

Once you stop chasing "shortcut" results and just start stacking one workout onto the next, your physique eventually takes shape.

But if you spend your energy chasing every new exercise "hack" or trendy trick, you end up wasting time on things that don't compound.

In content, just like in the gym, consistency beats intensity every time.

What does this look like in practice?

  1. 90% Evergreen topics. Create content that will be searched for by your audience 10 years from now. These are your "compound movements."

  2. 10% Updating old posts. Trends cause old data to shift. Spend a small fraction of your time keeping your foundation current.

  3. Accept the "Anti-Viral" reality. Chasing virality leads to burnout and frustration. A high-authority blog is built with time, patience, and content backed by genuine expertise.
