Should you blog or do guest posts?
Katie from Quora asks:
Is it better to start your own blog or publish on a bigger, more established site?
It depends on what you are trying to achieve.
Having your own blog is a long-term commitment. It serves as a permanent archive of your work where you have full control over the topics and the presentation.
While it takes longer to build an audience this way, you own the platform entirely.
Writing for a larger, established site is about reaching people quickly. If you're published on a site like Forbes or a major industry outlet, you're tapping into an audience that already exists.
It also helps people trust your expertise sooner because they already trust the platform you're writing for.
Which should you choose?
If you have the capacity to pitch to large publications, it’s an effective way to get noticed. However, if you're running an e-commerce business and already paying for ads to get visitors, your own blog is often more useful.
Since your ads are already bringing people to your site, you don't necessarily need your blog to find new traffic. Instead, use it to answer the specific questions your customers have.
It shows the people already visiting your site that you understand their problems and know how to solve them.
