Trying to Prove You're the Right Person? Stop Telling, Start Showing.
(I originally answered this question on Quora: "How can showcasing your embedded projects on platforms like YouTube or a blog boost your career prospects?")
The most frustrating part of finding new work is trying to convince a stranger of your value.
When people want to work with you, they have a silent checklist running in their heads.
It's almost always these 5 questions:
- Who is this person?
- Do they have real proof of their work?
- Do I align with their philosophy?
- Is this the price point that works for my budget?
- Are they able to offer deliverables within my timeframe?
When you show your work on YouTube or a blog, those pieces of content answer most of these questions for you.
Each post is a vote of confidence saying, "I'm your guy."
Here's the difference: A resume tells people what you did.
A portfolio shows them how you think.
A portfolio means work you've already done.
Not just what you say you did.
If your output matches their expectations, it creates an immediate level of trust.
You're not just a claim; you're proof.
