Why are quotes so quotable?
This Q from Quora asks:
Why do simple motivational quotes often have a deeper impact than long speeches?
My theory is that we’ve always gravitated towards concentrated ideas.
Ideas that are short, powerful, and leave an impact.
Could it be that we want to save energy? Does our brain dislike spending a lot of effort?
Perhaps.
I’m not an expert in that area.
But quotes capture a whole thought or philosophy.
Usually, it's spoken in simple language.
And we love sharing it with others.
What about distance?
Some quotes are even separated by time, space or region.
Yet they can still hit just as hard.
It’s a combination of these things that makes motivational quotes stick around much easier compared to longer speeches.
But I will say that long speeches aren't long just because they’re intended to be.
They're long because they set up the lesson through stories and examples.
Once people get the example or the story, the lesson shines.
So, in the end, it really depends on the listener or the reader.
