Why I send an email before a new writing project.
This Q comes from Quora:
How do you typically start when given a new content writing assignment?
I start by checking the content briefs but there's a catch.
Having worked with 150+ websites, I’ve learned that most of them (unfortunately) don't provide clear briefs.
Many contain conflicting info or instructions that are totally misaligned with the client's overarching goals.
A lot of them lack a clear ICP (Ideal Customer Profile), too.
You don't necessarily need to go into a deep academic study, but you need clarity.
Without it, the writing won't hit home because the foundation is weak from the start.
My Rule: If I find anything abrupt, ambiguous, or incomplete, I prepare a list of questions and shoot an email over immediately.
I learned this the hard way after my third client.
If you don’t ask the right questions before you start writing, you’ll end up in a cycle of unlimited revisions, and scope creep will become a massive issue.
